Motorway Mayhem M25 J10 (Ockham Common)
How Geocaching Works
Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer
Container is hidden in a pine wood at Ockham Common, just next to the A3 and M25 Junc 10.
GPS reception is potentially a little tough here under the towering pine trees. Cache may be awkward to find since there are no real landmarks amongst all the fern and trees and is well hidden.
Location is perfect for a travel bug hotel for those passing on the motorway. If it proves to be popular, then we'll replace the existing 2 ltr tupperware box with something larger like an ammo box.
Parking is very close but the car park has restricted hours; closed between 1900 and 0630 hrs. However you could park on the country lane and walk up a short slope.
If you wanted to extend your visit, you could also walk to the Chatley Heath Semaphore Tower at Landranger Grid TQ089585. The 60ft Tower was built in 1822 - one of a chain of Towers that were built by the Navy for communication by semaphore between The Admiralty in London and The Fleet at Portsmouth. On top of the towers were signalling masts by which messages would be sent backwards and forwards, visible to those in next tower. It was restored by Surrey County Council in 1989 and opened to the public. Inside are exhibitions and working models and on top there is a telescope with views across London and surrounding areas.
