Our second cache placement is located on Bond Mountain in Newfield, Maine. The trail is a wonderful walk that has something for everyone. There is a partially wooded summit, old stone foundation, silver mine and memorial. There is also a hidden side trail to a fantastic lookout over the Newfield Wildlife Management Area. It even has a spring so you can fill your water bottles before the hike!
From the parking area on Route 11 straight to the cache is only about 0.4 miles, but the trail length is just under a mile through the generous use of long switchbacks on the well-maintained road to the site of the old homestead. You can add 0.2 to the trip if you take the side trip out to the highly recommended eastern lookout.
I have created a series of waypoints you can download that lead you from the parking area to the cache. There are signs at the homestead site and silver mine. You may notice some careful tree clearing near the summit in order to restore the views that are slowly being obscured. I imagine you can see quite far in wintertime. Note that this is not the true summit; The peak of Bond Mountain is somewhere south of the lookout, which I have not explored yet.
The cache is in a small ammo box that I hope is accessable year-round. It contains a number of spy-related items, some toys, tools, and a bonus for the first finder (with coordinates!). There is some tree cover around the cache so I hope the coordinates are good. This is a popular trail so please re-hide the cache carefully.
We hope you have as much fun finding this cache as we had placing it!
