Geocache Description:

The Pet Therapy cache is hidden in a rocky outcrop on exposed mountain desert terrain around an altitude of 5557 feet. The total distance is 1.26 miles one way, easily hikeable, with a 525 foot altitude gain.

The Pet Therapy cache is an ammo can, painted with orange and yellow stripes, themed for anything to please your four legged hiking companion or stay at home pet. It is canine oriented with some feline representation, but any pet companion is welcome. Inside you will find a camera to photograph your visit and a photo album. There is also a Letterbox stamp and a log book. The contents are pet oriented, but please, no food, rawhides or catnip toys. You may need to hunt a bit as the box is hidden from poachers. Park your vehicle at the Keystone West trailhead or take it with you along Rt 1 for the next 1.16 miles of switchbacks. The turn off from Rt 1 is at N 39 33.302 W 119 52.029. Park your vehicle and hike the next 0.1 miles. This site is a great place for lunch or taking in the sunset. There are wonderful views of Reno and the surrounding mountains. It may be breezy up there. Dogs on voice command can run free, but have your leash ready if you meet other canines on the trail. Don’t be surprised if your furry friend takes out after rabbits, chipmunks and birds. Be sure to bring lots of water for your companion as the trail is dry unless it snows. There may be a few sunning snakes in the area. There are many interesting rocky formations in the immediate area to explore so have fun hunting around. To the northeast is a “stone throne” and to the north is a “stone bunker”. Let your imagination play. Have fun, play hard, bark loud! From the supreme alpha cache hounds, Teao and Taonga.
