The Pulgas Water Temple was reopened this week, and it was practically begging for a cache!
ChrissySkyking + Blaze got married here at the Pulgas Water temple in 2000. Since then it's been closed for renovation, but this weekend it was finally completed and opened once more.
In the past, water used to be pumped from the Sierras, through the sister temple in Sunol (see the companion cache there called Hydration Station by DavidT21 + Fisherwoman), across the bay, through Redwood City, and finally underneath this temple and out into Crystal Springs.
Now, there is a multi-million treatment plant next door, so all water is diverted there before being sent on to the lake. This is too bad, as it was incredible to hear and watch the water rushing under the temple.
The visiting hours are rather limited. Parking is available (30 minute limit) from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday. At other times, the temple is open during daylight hours, but you must walk or bike there or have someone drop you off. We found out the hard way that parking along the street (Canada Road) will bring the sheriffs REAL quick like! (Luckily we didn't get shot, but it was actually a little close!) During much of the year on Sundays, this part of Canada Road is closed to cars, which makes it a wonderful place to ride bikes with the family in safety.
The walk to the cache is not particularly hard. However, it's not a climb, so don't worry about a long hike. The cache is now (as of 9/6/05) a smallish bottle taped with camo tape, so don't leave large trade items or travel bugs. Please replace the same way.
