This cache will take you to the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Ladner, one of Canada's premier bird-watching spots and a fun place for a family weekend outing. Enjoy the drive across the old one-lane wooden swing bridge, then head west. You'll pass by farm stands selling fresh fruits, vegetables, and berries in season, see spring lambs, and maybe even spot an ocean-going freighter heading out Steveston channel.
For a real treat, bring your bikes and cycle across "pancake-flat" Westham Island on these quiet farm roads. Park at N49° 04.775 W123° 07.577 for a 10.5 km. round trip to the cache.
Reifel Bird Sanctuary (and the recommended parking area for the cache) is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., 7 days a week. There's a picnic area, ducks to feed, a small display area and gift shop, and washrooms available without paying the admission fee. Be sure to bring some bird seed to feed the ducks! The cache is located in this public, no-fee area.
If you'd like to see more of the bird sanctuary, there's an admission fee of $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for kids. Their website is a great resource for things to see and do while you're on the island.
The cache is a small plastic decon container (about the size of a digital camera) hanging from a tree at knee level on the north side of the trail. No bushwhacking is necessary -- please remember that this is a sensitive environmental and wildlife area!
The cache is located near the former "Thunder From The Right Geocache: GCF655)" that was archived in 2004.
