The cache is located on a footpath at the edge of the some of the University of Warwick's sports fields.
The establishment of the University of Warwick was given approval by the government in 1961. The University initially admitted a small intake of graduate students in 1964 and took its first 450 undergraduates in October 1965. In October 2003, the student population was over 15,500.
The campus is some 700 acres, which straddles the boundary between the City of Coventry and the County of Warwickshire, with the largest part being within the City boundary. There are frequent reports of visitors trying to find the University in the town of Warwick itself. The campus also includes Warwick Arts Centre, the largest of its kind in the Midlands.
This is the third cache to be created by ‘A Coventry Way Association’. The association was originally formed to promote a long distance footpath, A Coventry Way, and to support local authorities in the path’s maintenance. Our primary aim was to encourage people to discover and use the local countryside. A book of 21 Circular Walks was produced, broadly based on the main walk. Our plan is to set out a series of caches, located on or near each of the 21 walks. See ‘www.acoventryway.org.uk’ for further information.
The cache originally was a conventional Tupperware-style box, but unfortunately this was muggled three times. It was replaced with a micro; now a small lock & lock. It has also moved about 10m from original placement, for the first time in almost 10 years.
The cache is located on a public footpath on walk 5. This walk originates from the War Memorial Park (park and ride) at N 52 23.566 W 001 31.686; however, there is free parking close to the sports pavilion at N 52 22.571 W 001 33.981.
