Geocache Description:

Lyngby Skov

Lyngby Skov
The forest ("skov" in danish) covers an area of 65 hectares. Part of the forest consist of 200 year old oak trees, together with the remainings of an old agricultural method. In this method, the soil was arranged in banks with broad canals in between. The whole area was then sowed, and the banks were harvested if the season turned out wet; in dry seasons the canals were harvested instead.

Lyngby Skov is founded by the German forester von Langen. He came to Denmark in 1763 to make an attempt of saving the danish woods, wich were in bad condition. In the middle of the forest you can still find a single tree alive from this period, as well as a few dead ones.
