Deceangi: Rather than keep this cache temporarily disabled (which should only be used for shortish periods) I'm archiving it. If/when the cache is ever replaced I'll gladly unarchive it assuming it still meets the guidelines.

How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Easy terrian, cache established with a toddler in a 3-wheeler push-chair. Some steps to negotiate.

This is a multi-cache that will give you some fantastic views over Portsmouth and Gosport while visiting an extraordinary national collection.

Free parking is available at N50°51.526 W001°08.281. Check times for car park closing (changes depending on season and noted on notice board). There are no entrance fees required during the course of this cache. However, in order to get three of the clues, you will need to time your geocaching activities to: April – October 10am – 5pm, November to March 10.30 – 4pm.

Final Cache Co-ordinates: N50°51.ABC W001°08.DAE

To obtain the above co-ordinates, please visit the following locations to get the clues:

Go to N50°51.581 W001°08.313. The second mortar was placed on a concrete replica bed in 19E5.

N50°51.652 W001°08.388 this is a 13" cast iron mortar with a mean range of A,000 yards.

At N50°51.681 W001°08.347 there is a Russian Licorne made in 1B95.

At N50°51.636 W001°08.366 there is a doorway into an exhibition hall. Just inside on the right there is a Turkish bronze bombard dated 1Y6Z (C=Y-Z).

At N50°51.636 W001°08.326 your GPS will cease to be of use, you are going into the dark, at the end of the tunnel you will find the North Caponier with 4 guns. Look at the guns on the West side of the Caponier and you will see that the gun carriages were made in 188D.

Useful information:

Please note that we had to change the clues for this cache due to the fact that the ramparts are closed seasonally. If you get the chance to go up onto the ramparts however, you really should as the views are superb.

There are café and toilet facilities close to N50°51.636 W001°08.326
