Geocache Description:

This is the first cache in the Indiana Jones series. The coordinates above depict the starting point for this adventure. Use the pictures from the old camera and follow Senior Lopez's visually documented trail to the city of Atlantis and the hidden treasure. From the last picture of the cave, the Cache itself is 100 feet back in a very straight line from the top of the cave entrance.

"STOP!" The voice rang out over the dirt plaza. Indy and Aly turned as a short, scrawny man in khaki shorts, shirt, and a white hat dashed across the open area toward them. "Just a minute, that's my shop." He stopped and looked inquiringly at them. "Can I help you with something? Postcards? Replicas of the temple? Souvenir mugs?" "Er, no thanks, Mr..." began Indy. "Charles Steinhart, Ph.D," fired back Steinhart in a rich, plumy English accent. "Independent thinker, researcher, and merchant." "Professor Steinhart?" asked Aly beside him. "Yes," he said slowly. "What can you tell us about the Lost Dialogue of Plato?"

Professor Steinhart smiled. "Well, I'm the one who translated it; I can tell you that much. I'd worry you're here to steal my last copy, but I'm afraid a gentleman called 'Mr. Smith' beat you to it." "Kraus was here already!" hissed an agitated Indy. "What can you tell us about this 'Mr. Smith'?" asked Indy. "He showed up just a few hours ago," stammered Steinhart. "A tall chap with a German accent and a pistol. He could have taken all my Atlantis souvenirs, but he only wanted the Lost Dialogue." Indy grinded his teeth in frustration. They had been traveling non-stop for the last 3 days to arrive at this remote Mediterranean village, and now it seems they were just a few hours too late.

"Actually, Professor Steinhart," said Aly respectfully, "we were hoping to find some actual evidence of Atlantis here." "Evidence is easy, you're surrounded by it," said Steinhart dismissively. "Proof...now that's hard." But I have something here that villain Mr. Smith didn’t get.

An old camera from a Brazilian fellow named Lopez who claimed he discovered the enigmatic location. Don’t know what’s on the film, but he was pretty adamant that it contained valuable stuff. The insistent Brazilian wanted me to pay him a small fortune for the film. I told him to get lost, I was not interested in his hoax. Out of pity, I offered him 10 Drachmas for his old camera. He greedily took the money and left in a hurry. The camera is laying over there on the desk. The film is still inside, I haven’t had the time yet to bother developing the prints.

"Does this mean we came to the wrong place?" asked Indy. "I've pretty much lost hope myself," agreed Steinhart. "But old legends and rumors die hard." "Do you actually believe Atlanteans lived here?" asked Aly pointing to a map on the wall. "After the city sank, this is where they came, I'm sure," said Steinhart.

"Come on! I will show you were I found the entrance to an interesting site. Walk this way, please." Steinhart walked off. Aly paused. "I don't trust this guy, Indy," she said softly. "I know what you mean," said Indy. Steinhart beckoned to them from the entrance, behind his shop. "Come on!"

Just then shots rang out “BANG!!......BANG!..BANG!!” Steinhart slumped over and fell to the ground hard. A tall blonde figure ran up and pilfered the pockets of Steinhart. Out of the back pocket of Steinhart’s shorts, the villain Kraus pulled out a key attached to a large spider artifact. He then kicked Steinhart firmly in the stomach. Kraus snarled “You traitor! You should have given me the Rapa Nui key the first time I came by”. Before Indy knew what had happened, Kraus was gone.

Aly bent over Steinhart who was breathing with great difficulty. Steinhart could barely get the words out, but he whispered “take the camera”……“take the camera…. it will show you the path to Atlantis and the hidden treasure that you seek.”. With those final words Steinhart’s life ended. Indy picked up the camera. He and Aly left quietly and quickly.
