Solent Way Series - Titanic Micro
How Geocaching Works
Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer
This is an easy micro(or at least, as easy as micro's get)and is on the Solent Way, which runs between Milford and Emsworth for about 60 miles. This is set in conjunction with Nobby Nobbs.
As you stand at the location, wondering if you are being watched you can see Admiralty House over the road, built in 1902 which was at one time the Sea Post office and telegraph office for Southampton and it was from a berth close by that Titanic set sail in April 1912. Admiralty House has now been converted into luxury flats.
To the left of Admiralty House is Union Castle House. This was the Headquaters of the Union Castle Line, a major seafaring company that specilaised in passengers to South Africa. Union Castle House has since been converted to luxury flats.
Over the road again, is South Western House, once a fine Hotel where many of the passengers of the Titanic stayed on the night before their fateful voyage. In World War II it became Headquarters for Combined Operations Military Movement Control. It has since been converted into luxury flats.
As you walk further up the Solent Way, you will pass between South Western House and Union Castle house and will walk past Canute Chambers, which used to be the Head Quarters of the Titanic's owner and operator, White Star Lines.
