Geocache Description:

This used to be a regular cache but we have turned it into a small cache due to the high muggle activity! Gentle terrain! Almost a drive by!!! Please feel free to sign the back of the log pages when the front sides are all full. Bring your own writing utensil. Please replace just as you found it! The name of the cache mimics the name of the facility it is at. Muggles should not be a problem -- but there are security camera's in the area. Be stealthy !!!

The world as we knew it drastically changed on September 11, 2001. People all across the world looked for positive ways to deal with their anger, their disbelief and the fear about continuing terrorism.

The youth of Thornton were also affected by these events and because of this, the Thornton Peace Wall was proposed to help children express their emotions, unlock their imaginations and be a catharsis for the events as well as to give them a "voice" to the future through the language of art.

Children were reached through local elementary and middle schools, scouting organizations, city sponsored summer youth programs along with outdoor city pools. The overwhelming response and enthusiasm of the children was very exciting. Watching the blank white tiles become individual miniature works of art was a "once in a lifetime" opportunity for those involved with the direction of the tile workshops. Each tile was completed in vivid colors to match the vivid imaginations of their artists. In what seemed like no time at all, all of the 1500 tiles deemed necessary to cover both sides of the 6 foot high by 25 foot long wall were completed.

This wall serves as a constant reminder to everyone who vists it that peace does indeed begin at home. Thornton's children worked together to complete their tiles and now the tiles have come together in a mosaic to become a permanent and lasting mural for the City of Thornton and all visitors to enjoy for years and generations to come.
