Geocache Description:

Pleasant forest walk, uphill, on gravel paths (but often wet underfoot after rain)

There are several car parks surrounding this cache (although not as many as on Streetmap!) so you can adjust to how far you want to walk. I originally planned it as a robust, circular 3 – 4 mile walk from one of the Wilverley car parks:- Inclosure, Pit or Plain N50 48 462 W001 38 434. From Whitefield Moor N50 49 356 W001 36 734 or Whitefield Pond car parks it’s less than a mile walk there and should be completed within an hour.

This was originally a multi-cache with a clue where the path dog-legged. The clue - a pen of wooden posts - gradually sank into the bog. To reach the cache from the nearest car park (Whitefield Pond) you will have to go via this point:- N50 49 142 W 001 37 207. However, if you stick to paths you should do so anyway.

From Wilverley you can walk on to the above point if you want to make the walk circular. If walking from the Whitefield side and wanting to make it circular, keep left when you emerge on Wilverley Plain and pick up the path back by the group of three mature pines.

Please stick to the numerous footpaths, as the heather and gorse don't take too kindly to those that stray (and nor do the Forestry Commission guidelines) There really are three bogs in this area, which shouldn’t trouble you if you stick to the paths (but paths will remain wet for a while after heavy rain - especially from the Whitefield direction).

The cache is a green 2 litre plastic container, shaped for audio cassettes but not CD’s! Enjoy… But then PLEASE LEAVE WELL HIDDEN, Thank you.

There are toilets and, quite frequently, an ice cream van at Wilverley Plain and Whitefield Moor car parks.

Update 2nd April 2017 - the original cache location disappeared in the Great Holly Tree massacre earlier in the year - thanks to Dabtec for rescuing the cache and rehiding. That tree remains untouched, so I've decided to leave here and have altered coordinates. I've also downgraded the difficulty - fairly obvious which tree it is now!

Cache placed in line with Forestry Commission guidelines, negotiated by the GAGB committee and subject to review at the end of the year. Please read before attempting this or any other New Forest cache.
