Down the Trail
How Geocaching Works
Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer
The cache is located on the North Shore Snowmobile Trail. The trail is a wide trail used in the winter for snowmobiles but open to other non-motorized traffic as well. The trail runs a number of miles NW of the north shore of Lake Superior, connecting the parking lot at the Martin Road to Grand Marais. From the other trails that intersect this trail you can make your way to just about any snowmobile trail in the state. The hike is under a mile each way. The cache is located where the trail crosses the Lester River.
I would suggest parking at the corner of Jean Duluth Rd and Zimmerman Rd.
The first stage will give you coordinates to the second stage (which is then a little bit of a hike): N46 55.___ W092 03.___
When I placed the cache the trail was dry except for a couple of very small places. I don't think the bottom of my tennis shoes got wet. This was during a period of no rain though - if you go during a wet time of the year you'll want to bring some hiking boots at least. You can likely find it in the winter as well, although depending on the amount of snowfall it may prove to be a challenge to find the final.
There are three stages total and the final container is an ammo can.
This cache is part of the WOFT series.
