Dardanelles Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

The Lost Patrol: Alas, the monument has been moved and the Highway Department will begin construction at this interchange soon. I decided to move this one before it was lost. Hopefully I can place it near the new monument location.

Geocache Description:

In an abandoned wayside next to Exit 40

Plenty of safe parking at: N42 25.479, W123 02.582.
If you park closer be sure to pull all the way off the pavement.
Coordinates are for a historical monument in what looks like an abandoned park. A small cache container is hidden in the crotch of a giant oak tree nearby.
Refer to the April 6 log. The monument has indeed been removed. I checked with the State Highway Department. They told me that a committee that restores such obscure monuments pulled it out. They are going to place it in a more accessable spot just off the interchange. I found out that this area around the cache was once a small wayside when the freeway was first built. The water fountain was spring fed. At some point the Highway Department was told they had to clorinate the water they offered at their waysides and rest areas. Instead of treating the water they abandoned this wayside.
