Geocache Description:

A lovely walk along the cliffs taking in Auchencairn Bay, Hestan Island,Rascarrel Bay & Loch Mackie.

Turn off the A711 at the Cenotaph in the village of Auchencairn. You can either park in one of the parking spaces along here (not the passing places) which will give you a much longer walk, but will give you a chance to have a good look at Auchencairn Bay.
As you drive down this road, look out for the turretted Towerhouse...this is where Shep & I stayed when we got married in 2002...it looks like something out of a fairytale!
Park at the bottom of the road in Balcary Bay car park,at N 54 49.594, W 003 50.211. There you will see a board laying out a brief history of the area, along with information on birds & wildlife that you will come across.
By far the best route is around the cliffs, as you will get a superb view of Hestan Island, but it is a very dangerous track due to it being right at the edge of the cliff, so therefore may not be suitable for youngsters or dafty dogs!
If that is the case, you can follow the path inland which will cut out the worst of the cliffs, although it isnt quite as bad as the first path, it can still be a bit dicey at times.
The third route is more direct,& better for youngsters & will only take you about 45 minutes, this is up to Loch Mackie, where you will be able to pick up the sign for the shore.
The cache is a notebook only. Please do not leave any trading items here.
*please remember to bring a pen with you to log your find!!*
After your exertions, finding this cache, I strongly recomend that you stop at The Smugglers Inn pub in Auchencairn village, the food there is excellent! :)
