Geocache Description:

A 15 minutes car ride from downtown is necessary to find the final cache location.

The Grant House

Dr Grant, a graduate of Queen’s and McGill universities, also served as president of the Canadian Medical Association in 1872-73 and of the Royal Society of Canada in 1902-03. He was known to display eccentric behaviour at times: he apparently entertained guests one evening by dissecting a human brain to satisfy their intellectual hunger. He died in his home in 1920, a month after being bedridden due to a hip fracture.

The University Club used his house from 1920 until 1969. In 1972 Friday’s Roast Beef House opened. Restaurant staff have told tales of having trays knocked out of their hands when no one else was present, of hearing their names called from empty rooms on an upper floor. They tell of a noise, a heavy breathing, that is believed to be that of Grant because it sounds like a person wheezing, with an occasional cough. There are also tales that laughter emanates from one of the back rooms when no one is there. At the posted coordinates, you will find a plaque on the building.

The Lisgar Collegiate.

The Gothic Revival limestine building house Ottawa’s first collegiate institute. Its design was not suited for winter cold, snowy Ottawa winters. The ice built up often on the edge of the roof with thick sheets of ice. One day in 1941 or 1942 there was an accident. The janitor was leaning over the edge of the roof to remove the ice. It is said he slipped on the slicked surface and fell to his death.

Now, only a few people venture in the maze of pipes and heating equipment on the fourth floor of the Lisgar collegiate. They feel that someone is looking at them.
