    Alcantarilha é uma típica vila algarvia do concelho de Silves, com claras influencias árabes, que passa despercebida à maioria dos que passam na EN125 entre Albufeira e Portimão.
    O seu nome deriva do termo "Al-cantara" – "a ponte", mais tarde mudado para Alcantarilha, abreviatura de “pequena ponte”.
    É uma vila calma, que embora esteja a menos de quatro kms de Armação de Pêra, em nada tem a ver com a confusão que neste centro turístico se vive, em especial nos meses de verão.
    O núcleo antigo circunscreve-se a um pequeno emaranhado de ruas estreitas cujos edifícios guardam, ainda, indeléveis vestígios de um passado longínquo apesar da degradação da maioria das suas fachadas, algumas do inicio do século anterior, e que eram residência dos grandes proprietários rurais, se bem que já se encontram recuperadas algumas delas. Um pormenor interessante é o beirado dos telhados repleto de ninhos de andorinha que, no seu conjunto, parecem um rendilhado arquitectónico digno de observação.
    Alcantarilha, que apenas dista da sede de concelho cerca de 11 Kms, tem como principal monumento a igreja matriz que remonta ao século XVI, se bem que contem muitos outros pontos de interesse.
    Ergue-se numa pequena colina tendo, por isso, um aspecto bastante pitoresco, valendo bem uma visita.

    Only 11 Km from the historic city of Silves, the charming little town of Alcantarilha sits perched on a small hill amid luxurious flat-land famed for its orange and fig production.
    Probably Alcantarilha was an old Moorish settlement, the stream that runs by the village from which Alcantarilha takes its name was called by the Moslems “Al-cantara” which means “the bridge.”
    Indeed there used to be a small stone bridge over the stream, remnants of which were still visible in the 1930s but which have since more or less disappeared completely.
    The Parish Church is of interest with its macabre chapel of human bones and the Misericordia Church is also worth a visit. Farming is the principal occupation of the town’s 3,000 inhabitants.


    Please be careful as you catch the cache and with muggles.

    This isn’t an ordinary cache it isn’t covered with rocks or in the middle of bushes.

    This cache is not inside the chapel!
