Geocache Description:

The area in which the cache is located is known as the cliffs to local residents and is also a popular swimming spot in the summer.

The area used to be a German P.O.W. camp from 1940 - 1946. Before the area was a P.O.W. camp, the area was a hotel and a sanatorium. After the closure of the camp, from 1949 until the early 60's, the area became a hotel that catered to Jewish clientele. Eventually the buildings were condemned and were going to be demolished but a series of fires from 1964 to 1968 burned the buildings down. Most of the area is now being developed and some of it has been made into a waterfront park. There is still some visible evidence of the past history of the area.

At the above coordinates you will find parking and a sign dedicated to the area. On the sign you will find some dates that will help you find the final stage.

Using the coordinates:

Add the last two digits of the year in which the Minnewaska Hotel opened to the following N44° 55.395 + x x = N44° 55._ _ _. Where xx are the last two digits in the year.

Add the first two digits of the year in which workers started to develop the area to the following W079° 23.300 + yy = W079° 23._ _ _. Where yy are the first two digits in the year.

The final stage of the cache is in a 1L lock n' lock container that is covered in camo duct tape.
