Geocache Description:

THIS IS MY FIRST LETTERBOX HYBRID AND IT IS ALSO THE FIRST LETTEBOX IN LORAIN OHIO. THIS IS PART TWO IN MY LORAIN HISTORY SERIES. THE COORDS WILL ONLY GET YOU TO THE STARTING POINT OF THIS LETTERBOX HUNT. THIS IS A LARGE STAMP, BUT IT SHOULD FIT IN MOST NORMAL STAMP BOOKS.

THE CACHE IS A GREEN ARMY AMMO BOX WITH A HAND CARVED LORAIN LIGHTHOUSE STAMP THAT I MADE WITH A STAMP BOOK. PLEASE DONT TAKE EITHER OF THESE ITEMS. THE CACHE DOES CONTAIN A SEPERATE BAG WITH THE GEOCACHERS LOG BOOK. SO REMEMBER TO STAMP THE BOOK AND SIGN THE GEO LOG. LETS GET GOING!!! START AT THE LARGE GOLD BELL BEHIND THE BLACK RIVER HISTORICAL SOCIETY HOUSE LOCATED AT 309 WEST FIFTH ST. IN LORAIN OHIO. FACE NORTH TOWARDS LAKE ERIE AND TAKE 27 PACES TO THE SIDEWALK. THEN FACE EAST AND TAKE 9 PACES DOWN THE SIDEWALK. NEXT TAKE A HEADING SOUTH AND WALK ANOTHER 13 PACES. YOU SHOULD NOW BE AT THE DOOR OF THE MOORE HOUSE. GO INSIDE AND FIGURE OUT THIS RIDDLE. "ARE YOU FACING THE PULPIT"?? NOW ONTO SOME HISTORY...THE MOORE HOUSE IS THE HOME OF LEONARD M. MOORE, WHO HAD A LIFE TIME DREAM OF A GRAND PARK FOR THE PEOPLE OF LORAIN. LEONARD OFFERED HIS PLAN TO PURCHASE PROPERTY OUTSIDE THE CITY FOR A LARGE PARK TO CITY COUNCIL. HIS DREAM WAS REJECTED ON THE ISSUE OF MONEY TO BUY LAND NOT IN THE CITY OF LORAIN WAS NOT POPULAR. SO LEONARD TRIED A 2ND TIME AFTER RUNNING AND BEING ELECTED TO CITY COUNCIL IN 1914. AGAIN HIS DREAM WAS CRUSHED AND TURNED AWAY. BUT, MR. MOORE DIDN'T GIVE UP AND IN 1916 HE WAS ELECTED TO THE OFFICE OF MAYOR OF THE CITY OF LORAIN. THIRD TIMES A CHARM AND HIS DREAM CAME TRUE THE CITY OF LORAIN PURCHASED PROPERTY FOR THE GRAND PARK AND AT THIS TIME LAKEVIEW PARK CAME TO LIFE.
