Geocache Description:

In the eighteenth century the alps of Funen were genuine wilderness. Romanticism was booming and the upper middle classes in Copenhagen enjoyed ’turism’ in the wilderness. Among other places they travelled to Funen where they visited Svanninge Bakker, which were becoming famous nationally. By the turn of the century several artists painted motifs from Svanninge Bakker. The most well-known were Jens Birkholm, Fritz Syberg and Peter Hansen. Some of their paintings can be seen at ”Faaborg Museum for Fynsk Malerkunst” in Faaborg.
