Hungary being a landlocked country has a lowest point (not only a highest peak). The cache marks this 75.8 m altitude above sea level.
How to get there?
From Szeged you can start from the Flood Memorial which is point D of my cache called In Remembrance of a Flood (GCJ7JW) at N 46°14.727' E 20°9.02'.
It is a 10 km walk or cycling on the levee of the river Tisza south - cars are banned. Leave the levee at N 46°10.35' E 20°5.179'. Walk about 900 metres, passing a high-stand and then crossing the small bridge of a canal. So the cache is on the other side of the canal, on the left, by the side of the canal, 3 metres from the bridge. I placed a piece of concrete in front of the cache.
What to see during the hike?
Well, the cache was not placed because of the beauty of the land. But the forest on the flood plane and the wildlife (pheasants, deer, rabbits) is interesting. You'll need to walk around the boat port. And after the cache you can walk on to the border village of Röszke, crossing an ox-bow lake with birds and anglers.
The other low point…
Actually, there is a marked lowest point, too but it was placed 5 km from here in the 1980's when the closeness of the Yugoslavian border did not allow its placement on the real spot. So if you want the see this, too go to Tiszasziget on the other side of the river Tisza. Not far from the village you’ll find a small tourist centre at N 46°10.763’ E 20°8.502’. But this place is at a few meters higher!
Have a nice walk!
