How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Follow in the footsteps of General John Stark and learn a little history on this cache adventure.

Please note, Park Curfew is 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Please respect the curfew. Also, part of the cache route is on the Heritage Trail which borders the "YDC" (Kids Prison) property. You do not need to cross YDC property except on the trail.

This multi cache will give you a tour to learn some of the history of General John Stark, NH's Revolutionary War hero and the man who coined our state motto "Live Free Or Die". You will be looking for signs, plaques and monuments with information about General Stark. Gather the numbers and you will be able to fill in clues to the next waypoint and eventually the final cache.

The way this works is that once you fill in the number, you can see what digits are assigned to letters. Then replace the letters in the coordinates with the numbers.

For example: If an answer is 1 2 3 4 and it says that A=2nd number, B=4th number...

Then A=2 and B=4

So... N 43 00.5AB would be N 43 00.524

Ok, Here we go!

This cache starts (Main Coordinates) at the Stark House where General Stark lived just off of downtown in Manchester. Don't spend a lot of time looking for a parking spot because you'll be moving on quickly.

1) What is the year on the white sign attached to the front of General Starks house?
    __ __ __ __ A=1st Number, B=2nd Number, C=3rd Number, D=4th Number

Solve for waypoint #2.

N 43 00.8DB
W 71 28.ADB

This will give you the location of the second waypoint, which is a good walk, or a short drive away.

At the second waypoint, you will be taking place in a bit of a scavenger hunt, visiting landmarks in this area to fill in the answers to the questions. All of the landmarks are visible from the waypoint, but you will have to walk up to them to get the information.

2) What year was General Stark's likeness copyrighted (c)
    __ __ __ __ E=3rd Number

3) What year was General Stark's son Jr. born?
    __ __ __ __ F=2nd Number

4) How old was General Stark when he died?
    __ __ G=1st Number

5) There are 4 large almost identical metal objects in the area, what is their total weight?
    __ __ __ __ __ H=4th Number

6) How many cannon balls are on the surface of the piles?
    __ __ I=2nd Number

7) In what year was the Colonnade presented?
    __ __ __ __ J=2nd Number

Note: Question #7 may be the only one not easily visible after a snowfall.

Using the numbers above, fill in the coordinates for waypoint #3 which is a short walk away.

8) At waypoint #3, enter the year that water was available?
    __ __ __ __ K=4th Number.

And solve for waypoint #4.

9) At waypoint #4 you will see The letters "HT" engraved in some objects. How many objects are there?
    __ L=1st Number

And solve for waypoint #5.

At waypoint #5 what year was this institution founded?
    __ __ __ __ M=2nd Number, N=3rd Number.

Solve for the final cache location.

The cache is a well hidden Ammo Can. Please watch for muggles as the trails are very active and cover the cache well.
