While not unique to Iowa, having worked as a kid detasseling corn is an experience unique to USA "Corn Country" (The Midwest), and is very representative of that appreciation for the value of agriculture and Midwestern work ethic that a lot of folks around here have. So the “Uniquely Iowa cache” is homage of sorts to the detasseling experience of our home-grown, corn-fed geocachers (and their kin).
In the cache is a logbook large enough to record your detasseling experiences. In creating this logbook, I posted a thread at the online discussion forums of two websites: http://www.iowageocachers.org/ and http://www.geocaching.com/
Inside cover of this logbook are excerpts of comments, discussions, and stories from those threads, and an article about the web-based ‘CornCam’. Enjoy!
There is an abundance of Raspberries and Blackberries (Gooseberries and Mulberries too). The best picking season is mid to late June. Hiking, biking, cross country skiing and snowmobiling is allowed. No hunting or horses.
