Geocache Description:

MARIENDALS KIRKE - 1908
  MARIENDALS CHURCH – 1908

Dannebrog

Orgelet - Krohn, 1963 - 18 stemmer

Om Cachen:

Cachen er en Petling

Union Jack

Arkitekt: Thorvald Jørgensen

Mariendal parish was separated from Sankt Thomas parish in 1905. The owners of the farm "Mariendal", Niels and Thora Josephsen, donated the building site and the majority of the money for the construction of the church and the parish hall. – The street name “Nitivej” was created using the couple's initials, "NJTJ". The church fund trust build a temporary church in cocolith (fibers from coconut and plaster), which in 1908 "hiked" on to a new church project.

The present Mariendals Church is built in a history creating style with a granite plinth, window rose and loggia. The church room, covered by a barrel vault, has a carved choir pulpit and wooden pulpits in “skønvirke”-style (Danish form of Art Nouveau) along three of the sides of the room. In a vault under the choir rests the remains of Niels and Thora Josephsen. Knud Larsen's original altarpiece is included in a new complete-decoration of the church's choir from 1988 by artist Mogens Jørgensen. The baptizmal font by Siegfried Wagner is in granite with bronze-plate. The Altar silver is endowed with jewels from Thora Josephsen's jewellery.

The organ: Krohn, 1963 - 18 stops
