Presumed Dead, Part I: Crossed Paths Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Lostboy1966: It's been three years since I released these hides, and the elements were getting to the containers. Part I: Crossed Paths had sprung a leak which washed out the story notes. Part II: Libri Pestis had been reported missing, but the 'ol Book Of Plagues was still there, though a bit gnawed on by assorted bad critters with a taste for styrofoam. The final stage, The Rising, was kind of sad to take out of service. I had good memories of hiking this container in - thankfully nobody passed me on the trail that day when I was carrying a bag that had the suspicious shape of a human torso! [:o)]

Gustav Oremor (BTW that's Romero spelled backwards, as in George Romero) was a little beat up, but not in bad shape at all considering his three years sitting in the woods. For this trip I spared him the indignity of a bag, and hiked him out uncovered for all the world to see. Nobody did though - probably for the best.

So one of my favorite hide series bids farewell. My sincere thanks to everyone who took the time to hunt them and leave all those great logs. If you had half as much fun looking for these as I did putting them out, then I'd say it was worth it.

Now, what to do with this Ammo Box I need to recycle? Hmmmm....

Greg

Geocache Description:

Part one of a three-cache series. BRING PAPER AND PENCIL, and park where suggested. See notes below. Please do not post spoilers in your logs.

While reading the paper one day, a strange story catches your attention:

You pause, then read the description of this Oremor character again - big bald guy with a limp and an accent. Could it be? You remember geocaching in the area not too long ago (another DNF) and passing just such a strange person on a trail. He barely acknowledged you as he hobbled past, and seemed to be in his own world, mumbling to himself the whole time while clutching a small parcel to his chest.

Feeling a bit uneasy after the encounter, (you have got to remember to pick up a can of Pepper Spray one of these days, just in case) you looked back over your shoulder to make sure the weirdo wasn’t following you. Thankfully, the stranger continued on his way, moving towards rougher terrain. Cautiously you followed and watched from a distance. Eventually he stopped, dropped to his knees, and started chanting something that you couldn’t quite understand. You decided to get out of there, as the situation was becoming a bit too creepy – something was wrong here.

For the next few days you stuck to Park and Grab hides while the willies subsided, and eventually you had forgotten about the whole episode. Until now, that is.

Putting down the newspaper, you power up your GPSr. Should you go back to that spot and have a look around to see what that Oremor guy was up to? Dang! You erased your Track Logs! Now you’ll have to trace your steps back through the woods to find the spot where this strange event happened.

Where is Gustav Oremor? Why did he disappear without a trace? What was he up to in the woods on that fateful day? It’s up to you to find out!

Cache Notes:
BE SURE TO BRING PAPER AND PENCIL WHEN YOU SEEK THIS CACHE! At the final stage of this Multi, you will find the missing coordinates needed for the next cache in the series: Presumed Dead, Part II: Libri Pestis. This is a two-stage multi. Cache one is an orange match holder, while the final is a modified Lock&Lock container about 5" square. Total round trip should be +/- .5 mile

Parking Tips:
Suggested parking for this Multi is at N 41° 18.244 W 073° 27.447, near the cul-de-sac on 'Old Stone Ct' in Ridgefield, where there is a trailhead. Resist the urge to pull off on Rt.7, as deep curbside ruts and the high traffic could make doing so dangerous!

Nominated as a Top Pick from the CTCachers.com Website in the 'Series' Category.
