Geocache Description:

This cache was originally placed by Cache U Nutter

Small plastic 'snap and lock' container
Adjacent to Reigate Heath a S.S.S.I (site of special scientific interest).
Approach from Flanchford Rd car park (fine views) or take the less attractive approach via Buckland.

Shagbrook is a stream 100m to the South of the cache. The stream rises from a spring at the foot of the North Downs and as such is crystal clear. If you look carefully and for long enough you may well see crayfish. These are of the American variety that have escaped from a local crayfish farm. Between the stream and Reigate Heath, this area was recently under environmental threat as a proposal to extract sand was narrowly turned down. A large number of locals including myself set about to form 'The friends of Reigate Heath' an organisation looking after the Heaths interests.

Had the scheme gone ahead, a huge pit would have been dug which potentially could have lowered the water table by up to 15 m. This would have been an environmental disaster for the Heathlands which are a unique habitat for many spieces of insect and fauna. Why not walk over the heath via the windmill and onto Lucky Parrot / Churchills Charlie Cache.
