I had a lot of fun going around Fullerton this morning finding benchmarks and geocaches. I would like to find 100 benchmarks a year from now on. There are few geocaches to find near my home in Laredo, TX, but there are a lot more benchmarks to be discovered.

Found as described. Coordinates were way off and led me down an alley.

The 4th of 4 for the day. This one was interesting in that there were 2 discs. One was about a foot away from the other one and the old one had it's numbers obliterated. It also had been painted over. I'm assuming that they had made a mistake and corrected it but left the old disc in place so as not to confuse anybody. Interesting anyway.

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in February 1997.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
