Found while walking through the area.

Found this benchmark today while on my tour of the area.

Here on holiday and there was a benchmark!

Nice Holiday BM wish they were all this good.

I wish they were this obvious back home!

Ready to ride? Was thinking about taking the train near the location but decided against it.

Stayed just up the road from here. Literally tripped over the benchmark before noticing it was there. Just a chance find.

Woohoo, 1st Benchmark in S. Dakota. Visited Mt. Rushmore and came into town for a late lunch. Parked nearby and grabbed this one first and then the benchmark by the bridge.
Visiting from S. Florida for a few days.

Found this one after visiting Mt. Rushmore. Seems to be in good shape. I wonder how many people walk right by and don't even notice it.

Spotted marker in excellent condition.

Out caching in the area went into Keystone for something to eat walking back to the car and said hey look at this. Something extra for the day :)

Hi.

I'm currently in Iraq and just recently received a Geocoin as a donation to those of us that are geocaching in less than ideal conditions. I really appreciate the donation and am thankful for the generosity of those back home that support us.

This particular Geocoin is a Mt. Rushmore Geocoin and would look wonderful in a picture sitting next to this very benchmark. I hope that someday, someone is able to do just that. We'll see what happens.

Thanks again.

Found this marker in excellent condition near an intersection in Keystone.

Could walk to this from our lodge before taking the train to Hill City and finally viewing T-rex Stan.

Ran accross this benchmark while returning to car after visiting Keystone. Still in great shape.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in October 1997.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
