Blugoose and I spent the day caching and benchmarking “down the shore!” In fact, I only got 6 cache smilies, but really scored on the survey scene coming in with 18 including some brand new types!

This one was especially interesting to me, as my Dad was in the Coast Guard when Sis and I were babies and he was stationed in the area.

AH9178 was rather strange as it appears to be more of a Municipal marker as opposed to the traditional NGS station I am used to. It is however, stamped correctly, so I'll take it.

..forgot to get area shot, but did remember to set the GPSr beside it to give an idea of the size of this disk - it's a small one!

Easy to find but the red circle is going away. Nice bike ride today.

This mark was an easy find, as there is a red circle spray-painted around it on the sidewalk. The disk is in good condition and is stamped SH-50. As mentioned in the 1997 description, the building at this location is the American Legion Post 331.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in January 2001. No vertical observational check was made to the station.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
