Recovered in poor condition at N 28 04.636 W 080 36.243. The disk is missing, but the stem is intact. A large nail is in place inside of the stem.

Found the location with the bent spike.

Mark not recovered. As stated in 8/16/2003 entry, the disk is missing from the location, and a bent nail has been inserted into the hole.

Visited station location and identified possible former location of disk. The disk is gone and a large nail has been inserted in the hole. It is bent toward the East. See the pictures of location and surroundings.

AT MELBOURNE, ABOUT 0.1 MILE SOUTH ALONG THE FLORIDA EAST COAST RAILWAY FROM THE STATION AT MELBOURNE, SET ON THE TOP OF THE EAST END OF THE NORTH CONCRETE ABUTMENT OF THE RAILWAY BRIDGE OVER CRANE CREEK, IN SECTION 2, R 37 E, T 28 S, 7.9 FEET EAST OF THE EAST RAIL OF THE EAST TRACK AND 1/2 FOOT BELOW THE LEVEL OF THE TRACK. NOTE-- THE RAILWAY STATION NO LONGER EXISTS.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
