Walking by the water this evening. Enjoying the Spanish language and music of nearby tourists. The sun is starting to lower in the sky and a little black bird is serenading me. Looking for crumbs perhaps. It has been a really nice day. TFTC.

Today we found our first Benchmark! Thanks!

Our very first Benchmark. Thank you for pointing this out to us.

stumbled upon this while visiting the fort.

My first Benchmark. I found it while visiting the Fort, but I think it's more interesting to search for Geocaches than for Benchmarks.

Thx. Had fun finding this benchmark.

Walked up on this one while headed to a different benchmark.

Found this while headed to the nearby virtual cache - at least I think I did. The benchmark disk I saw matches the description and the pictures prior finders posted but the coordinates are a good bit off. I'm posting the coordinates I got at the benchmark.

Found while doing the virtual caches in the area.

Found after our visit at the nearby fort.

What an incredibly historic location...

Found this after a virtual cache at the fort.

Had some trouble at first because the coords are too far south on the opposite side of the street. Much thanks to Harry Dolphin for his wide area shot that helped me and my friend Erin find this one.

We actually found this July 27th while touring the Castillo de San Marco. Took a picture of it, but had no coordinates because we didn't have our GPS with us. Finally decided to look here and log it. Our first Benchmark!

Wow, the first B&C, Inc. benchmark find! B wasn't feeling well, so while her parents went to get the car, C, little C#1 and #2 happened to find it waiting for the ride. Forgot about these things until we literally walked over it!

Happened upon this one on the way to the Castillo de San Marcos. This is my first Bench Mark and I wasn't sure about them. This was an easy grab.

Found as described.

Found this one while visiting Castillo De San Marco National Monument. Appears in good shape.

Just stumbled on this one while doing the Hot Shots virtual geocache. Good shape right in the sidewalk along the retaining wall at the Castillo de San Marco. I'll have to try more benchmark hunting.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
