Found this benchmark while geocaching in St. Augustine.

The access cover is broken off. Someone had placed a KIA cap on it for some reason. Pulled off the cap to snap a photo then replaced.

The rod itself looks to be a bit off center as well.

Quite an easy find. A pole expressedly asked me not to disturb the metal rod below the placquard, what I did.

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1991 IN SAINT AUGUSTINE, AT THE INTERSECTION OF SAN MARCO AVENUE AND HILDRETH DRIVE, 15.3 M (50.2 FT) SOUTH OF THE EXTENDED CENTER OF THE DRIVE, 6.4 M (21.0 FT) WEST OF AND LEVEL WITH THE AVENUE CENTERLINE, 2.2 M (7.2 FT) EAST OF A CHAIN-LINK FENCE, AND 0.6 M (2.0 FT) NORTH OF UTILITY POLE NUMBER 35956500105 65. NOTE--ACCESS TO THE DATUM POINT IS THROUGH A 5-INCH LOGO CAP.

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in May 1994.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
