Found our first benchmark as we took the scenic route to Katy Mills Mall. (We had to make sure we had enough time to find some geocaches before we started shopping.)

I found it with little problems. Coordinates were a bit off from mine but got me to the site. A plaque on the bridge said it was the Hady Creek and made no mention of Bessies Creek as the 1973 NGS Record shows. A 1968 Waller County map (published by State of Texas) I have says it is Bessies Creek. you should have no problems finding it but do watch out for the fire ants near the Disk.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
