Can't say it was a nice day but it least it didn't start raining until later in the day. No problem finding lots of benchmarks along the seawall.

RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1998 (CSM) THE STATION IS LOCATED IN GALVESTON, SET INTO THE SEAWALL, ALONG SEAWALL BOULEVARD, JUST SOUTHWEST OF 81ST STREET. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF INTRERSTATE HIGHWAY 45 AND SPUR 342, 61ST STREET, EXIT 1A, GO SOUTH-SOUTHWEST ALONG 61ST STREET FOR 2.66 KM (1.65 MI) TO A T-JUNCTION WITH SEAWALL BOULEVARD. TURN RIGHT AND GO SOUTHWEST ALONG SEAWALL BOULEVARD FOR 2.17 KM (1.35 MI) TO THE STATION ON THE LEFT, JUST PAST 81ST STREET. THE STATION IS LOCATED 36.2 M (118.8 FT) SOUTHWEST FROM SURVEY DISK 74+09.45, 16.5 M (54.1 FT) SOUTHEAST FROM THE CENTER OF SEAWALL BOULEVARD, 12.1 M (39.7 FT) NORTHEAST FROM A CONCRETE STAIRCASE, 4.1 M (13.5 FT) SOUTHEAST FROM THE CURB OF SEAWALL BOULEVARD AND .45 M (1.48 FT) NORTHWEST FROM THE SOUTHEAST EDGE OF THE SEAWALL.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
