Discovered while geocaching in the area. Lots of history here. Cool rail bridge over the Brazos River, several benchmarks in the city, great courthouse building, and a cemetery with some historic grave sites.

to go to my grandparents house.

This water tank in Historic Downtown Richmond, TX (Calhoun St. between 4th & 5th) is 2.7 mile from my home in Rosenberg, TX at a bearing of 4 on my GPS. Attached is a photo of this water tank.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1942 (FBQ) THIS INTERSECTION STATION IS LOCATED IN THE NW PART OF THE BUSINESS DISTRICT OF RICHMOND, ABOUT 140 FEET N OF THE CITY FIRE STATION, AND 50 FEET S OF THE UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD TRACKS. THE TANK AND FOUR-LEG TRUSSWORK SUPPORTING TOWER ARE CONSTRUCTED OF STEEL, PAINTED ALUMINUM. IT IS ABOUT 140 FEET HIGH. THE POINT LOCATED WAS A BALL CENTERED AT THE APEX OF THE CONICAL ROOF OF THE TANK.

RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1952 (RLE) THE STATION IS LOCATED IN THE NORTH-CENTRAL PART OF RICHMOND AND ABOUT 2 BLOCKS NORTH OF THE COURTHOUSE. IT IS A 4 LEGGED STEEL STRUCTURE SUPPORTING THE TANK PROPER. THE TANK HAS A CONICAL SHAPED ROOF WHICH SUPPORTS THE COUNTY POLICE RADIO ANTENNA AT ITS APEX. THE OVERALL HEIGHT IS ABOUT 150 FEET ENCLUDING THE RADIO ANTENNA. THE APEX OF THE TANK ROOF WAS OBSERVED.
