This is the first time I have actually found any remains of the 4" X 4" wooden witness post near a benchmark that was mentioned in the data sheet. Found easily and in good condition.

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1972 1.45 MI NW FROM PLUM. 1.45 MILES NORTHWEST ALONG THE MISSOURI-KANSAS-TEXAS RAILROAD FROM THE CROSSING OF AN ASPHALT ROAD AT PLUM, 0.1 MILE SOUTHEAST OF A PRIVATE ROAD CROSSING, 7 1/2 FEET SOUTHEAST OF MILE POLE 981, 39.7 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE NORTHEAST RAIL, 40.6 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE CENTER LINE OF A GRAVEL ROAD PARALLELING THE RAILROAD, 1.5 FEET NORTGHWEST OF A WITNESS POST, ABOUT 2 FEET LOWER THAN THE TRACK, SET IN THE TOP OF A CONCRETE POST PROJECTING 0.3 FOOT ABOVE THE GROUND.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
