Found it behind the locked fence because it has been helpfully marked with a wooden post with "K 121 1933" written in sharpie on it and pink tape tied around it.

Recovered as described in good condition.

The foundation of the water tower is behind a tall chain-link fence. Since it's on city property, and I happen to live in this town, I decided jumping the fence was not a good idea! But, the water tower IS pretty much where the coordinates are.

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1943 IN FLATONIA. BENCH MARK IS SET HORIZONTALLY IN THE TOP OF THE WEST CORNER OF THE CONCRETE FOUNDATION OF THE NORTHWEST LEG OF THE CITY WATER TOWER. IT IS ONE BLOCK SOUTH OF AND ACROSS THE TEXAS AND NEW ORLEANS RAILROAD TRACK FROM THE CENTERLINE OF U.S. HIGHWAY NO.90, 69.0 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE MAIN TRACK OF THE TEXAS AND NEW ORLEANS RAILROAD, 20.7 FEET EAST OF A STEEL GUARD FENCE AROUND THE CITY WATER PUMP STATION. A DISK SET IN A DRILL HOLE.

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.) The vertical order pertains to the superseded datum.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
