DESCRIBED BY ALABAMA HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT 1991 THE STATION IS LOCATED IN MOBILE COUNTY ON A HIGH VOLTAGE POWER LINE RIGHT OF WAY, ABOUT 5.95 MI (9.58 KM) SOUTH OF MOUNT VERNON AND ABOUT 6.65 MI (10.70 KM) NORTH-NORTHEAST OF CREOLA. TO REACH THE STATION FROM EXIT 19 ON I-65 (MILE POST 14.15 ON U.S. 43) , DRIVE NORTH ON U.S. 43 FOR 8.50 MI (13.68 KM) TO MILE POST 22.65 AND THE SOUTH SIDE OF A HIGH VOLTAGE POWER LINE CLEARING LEFT AND RIGHT, TURN RIGHT ALONG THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE POWER LINE CLEARING AND DRIVE EAST FOR 0.10 MI (0.16 KM) TO THE RAILROAD, PARK HERE AND PACK APPROXIMATELY 100 YARDS TO THE STATION ON THE LEFT. THE STATION IS 39.0 FT (11.9 M) SOUTHWEST OF AN ABANDONED GRAVEL WOODS ROAD, 183.9 FT (56.1 M) SOUTHWEST OF THE SOUTH LEG OF BENT NO. 5 OF THE NORTH POWER LINE ON STEEL TOWERS, APPROXIMATELY 50 YARDS NORTH OF THE SOUTH EDGE OF THE RIGHT OF WAY CLEARING, APPROXIMATELY 75 YARDS EAST OF THE RAILROAD, 1.2 FT (0.4 M) EAST OF A CARSONITE WITNESS POST, AND SET FLUSH WITH THE GROUND. STATION 49-13 1991 MAY BE USED AS AN AZIMUTH FOR THIS STATION.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by GPS observations and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in December 1992.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in February 1996. The height was determined by precise leveling from only one NSRS bench mark. This was not adequate "tie leveling" to NSRS and was allowed ONLY to validate the GPS-derived height.
  • The X, Y, and Z were computed from the position and the ellipsoidal ht.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The ellipsoidal height was determined by GPS observations and is referenced to NAD 83.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
