Recovered in bad/poor condition... It looks like someone drove over the witness post and broke its stem, then replanted it right next to the remaining stem stump. The BM itself was dug too deep, but is likely still there in "front" of that stem stump.

ABOUT 2 MILES SOUTHEAST ALONG US HIGHWAY 290 FROM THE JUNCTION OF US HIGHWAY 290 AND HEGAR RD., AT THE JUNCTION OF US HIGHWAY 290 AND KATY-HOCKLEY RD., 89.5 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER LINE OF KATY-HOCKLEY RD., 42.9 FEET SOUTH OF THE SOUTH RAIL, 4.5 FEET NORTH OF A FENCE, 2.4 FEET WEST OF A TELEPHONE POLE, 1.3 FEET EAST OF A METAL WITNESS POST, 3 FEET BELOW THE LEVEL OF THE RAILS, AND IS A DISK SET ON TOP OF A 5/8-INCH COPPER COATED STEEL ROD, AND PROTECTED BY A 6-INCH METAL PIPE FLUSH WITH THE GROUND. THE ROD WAS DRIVEN TO A DEPTH OF 24 FEET.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
