RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1974 (LHW) THE STATION MARK, REFERENCE MARKS 1 AND 2 WERE RECOVERED AND FOUND TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION AS DESCRIBED BY M.A.H. IN 1935. THE STATION MONUMENT HAS BEEN HIT AND PART OF THE MONUMENT CHIPPED AWAY BUT IS FIRM IN THE GROUND AND WAS LEFT IN PLACE. THE DISTANCE AND DIRECTION TO REFERENCE MARK 1 CHECKED. THE DISTANCE TO REFERENCE MARK 2 WAS FOUND TO BE SHORTER BY 0.08 OF A FOOT AND THE DIRECTION TO REFERENCE MARK 2 WAS FOUND TO BE LESS BY 2 MINUTES. THE AZIMUTH MARK WAS SEARCHED FOR BUT WAS NOT FOUND AND IS BELIEVED TO BE DESTROYED. A REFERENCE MARK 3 WAS ESTABLISHED AT THIS TIME. FOLLOWING IS A NEW AND COMPLETE DESCRIPTION. THE STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 10.5 MILES SOUTHEAST OF VIENNA, 4 MILES EAST OF THE JUNCTION OF INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 75 AND U.S. HIGHWAY 280 AT CORDELE AND ON PROPERTY OF AN OLD CEMETERY, PROPERTY OWNER UNKNOWN. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 75 AND U.S. HIGHWAY 280 AT CORDELE, GO EASTERLY ON HIGHWAY 280 FOR 4.55 MILES TO A CROSSROAD. IT IS 75 FEET EAST OF CHARLIE TOBEYS TOMBSTONE, 23 FEET NORTH-NORTHEAST OF A 16-INCH OAK TREE AND 19 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER OF THE ROAD. THE 1935 DATA STATES THAT AN UNDERGROUND MARK WAS SET. REFERENCE MARK 1, A STANDARD DISK STAMPED PENIA NO 1 1935, IS SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH CYLINDRICAL CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT PROJECTS 4 INCHES ABOVE THE GROUND SURFACE. IT IS 27 FEET EAST OF THE CENTER OF THE ROAD AND 12 FEET SOUTH OF A CONCRETE BOUNDARY MONUMENT. REFERENCE MARK 2, A STANDARD DISK STAMPED PENIA NO 2 1935, IS SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH CYLINDRICAL CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT PROJECTS 3 INCHES ABOVE THE GROUND SURFACE. IT IS 159 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER OF THE ROAD, 70 FEET SOUTH OF THE TOMBSTONE AND AT THE NORTH END OF A CULTIVATED FIELD. REFERENCE MARK 3, A STANDARD DISK STAMPED AZ PENIA 1935 NO 3 1974, IS SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH CYLINDRICAL CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT PROJECTS 2 INCHES ABOVE THE GROUND SURFACE. Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in September 1997.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
