Recovered station KENDALL along with RM 1 and RM 2, all in good condition. Photos for RM 1 under its PID CG0894.

Found while in the Tombstone area, looking for a couple of caches and a couple of benchmarks. Found the station and RM2. Also found RM1 (CG0894)

Recovered Station Mark, Reference Mark 1 and Reference Mark 2 in good condition as described, did not search for the Azimuth Mark. Updated to reach directions follow.

To reach the station from the Post Office in Tombstone, travel Southeast on Safford Street for 0.1 miles to State Highway 80. Turn right and travel Southwest for 0.1 miles then Southeast for 0.9 miles on State Highway 80 to Camino San Rafael Road. Turn left and travel North on Camino San Rafael Road for 1.1 miles to Gleeson Road. Turn right and travel East on Gleeson Road for 0.4 miles to a cattle guard where the road becomes a graded road and continue 2.3 miles to the Station on the left.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1946 (CAE) THE STATION IS 4 MILES ENE OF TOMBSTONE BY AIRLINE. TO REACH FROM THE POST OFFICE IN TOMBSTONE, GO SW ON U.S. HIGHWAY 80 FOR 0.6 MILE TO A SIDE ROAD LEFT AND A SIGN READING GLEASON PEARCE. FOLLOWING THE SIGN, TAKE THE LEFT FORK, A GRADED ROAD, AND GO 3.3 MILES TO THE WITNESS POST AND AZIMUTH MARK ON THE LEFT. CONTINUE 0.4 MILE TO THE WITNESS POST AND THE STATION ON THE LEFT. THE STATION MARK IS A BRONZE STATION DISK, STAMPED KENDALL 1946, AND IS SET IN A SQUARE CONCRETE POST PROJECTING 2 INCHES. IT IS 12 FEET ENE OF THE WITNESS POST AND 114 FEET NW OF THE CENTER OF THE TOMBSTONE-GLEASON ROAD. UNDERGROUND MARK IS A BRONZE STATION DISK SET IN CONCRETE. REFERENCE MARK 1 IS A BRONZE BENCH-MARK DISK, STAMPED C 78 1934, AND IS SET IN A SQUARE CONCRETE POST PROJECTING 4 INCHES. IT IS 83 FEET SE OF THE CENTER OF THE TOMBSTONE-GLEASON ROAD. THE MARK IS ABOUT 12 FEET BELOW THE STATION AND SE OF IT. REFERENCE MARK 2 IS A BRONZE REFERENCE DISK, STAMPED KENDALL NO 2 1946, AND IS SET IN A SQUARE CONCRETE POST PROJECTING 2 INCHES. IT IS ABOUT THE SAME LEVEL AS THE STATION. THE MARK IS SW OF THE STATION. THE AZIMUTH MARK IS A BRONZE AZIMUTH DISK, STAMPED KENDALL 1946, AND IS SET IN A SQUARE CONCRETE POST FLUSH. IT IS 6 FEET WNW OF THE WITNESS POST AND 41-1/2 FEET NW OF THE ROAD FROM TOMBSTONE TO GLEASON. THE MARK IS 0.4 MILE SW OF THE STATION. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK - 1.0 METER.

RECOVERY NOTE BY ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION 1985 (HW) THE STATION MARK, REFERENCE MARKS AND AZ MARK WERE RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION. THE 1946 DESCRIPTION IS ADEQUATE FOR RECOVERY.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in August 1993.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
