Found this benchmark easily today, the coordinates are quite accurate. As far as we know, the road past Greaterville has been closed to access for many years, and the buildings of the 1936 description are gone. Our route was out Gardner Canyon Rd to Fish Canyon (FR 163) beyond Kentucky Camp towards Melendrez Pass. At about N 31 45.453 W 111 45.874 there is a parking area where an old road was closed off by a short stretch of fence. We parked here, and walked along the old road about .70 miles to the station on top of a hill. We easily found the station and both RMs in good condition. There is a mining claim notice on white PVC pipe about 50 ft WNW from the station.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in August 1993.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
