Documented History (by the NGS)

01/01/1918 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
01/01/1934 by CGS (MARK NOT FOUND)
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1934 ABOUT 3/4 MILE SOUTHEAST ALONG THE MACON, DUBLIN AND SAVANNAH RAILWAY FROM JEFFERSONVILLE, 80 FEET WEST OF SIGN 1/2 MILE TO STATION, 280 FEET EAST OF A CROSSING, AT WEST END OF A CUT, 4 FEET ABOVE TRACK AND 13 FEET NORTH OF NORTH RAIL. REFERENCE MARK = D-27, IS 30 FEET NORTH OF NORTH RAIL, 11.625 METERS (38.14 FEET) FROM STATION IN GRID AZIMUTH 349 DEG 21 MIN. IN 1934 STATION REPORTED DESTROYED.
01/01/1949 by CGS (MARK NOT FOUND)
RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1949 (CMT) STATION WAS ABOUT 0.5 MILE SE ALONG THE MACON, DUBLIN AND SAVANNAH RAILROAD FROM THE RAILROAD DEPOT AT JEFFERSONVILLE. IT WAS REPORTED IN 1934 TO HAVE BEEN DESTROYED. THIS IS EVIDENTLY TRUE SINCE THE ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION PLACES IT WHERE IT WOULD CERTAINLY HAVE BEEN REMOVED BY RAILROAD DITCH CLEANING AND CUT WIDENING. THIS IS ALSO CHECKED BY DISTANCE AND AZIMUTH FROM THE RECOVERED REFERENCE MARK. THE REFERENCE MARK WHICH IS NUMBERED ONLY AS B.M. D 27 IS 75 YARDS SE OF A PRIVATE ROAD CROSSING, 30 FEET NE OF THE NE RAIL, 13.6 FEET NW OF A FENCE T-INTERSECTION WHICH IS NEAR THE NW END OF THE FIRST RAILROAD SE OF JEFFERSONVILLE, AND 2 FEET SW OF THE RIGHT-OF-WAY FENCE ON THE NE SIDE OF THE RAILROAD. IT IS A BRONZE REFERENCE DISK, IS FLUSH WITH THE GROUND, AND THE DISK IS STAMPED GETTY D 27 1918 ELEV. 527.089. THE ARROW OF THE REFERENCE MARK POINTS APPROXIMATELY TO GEORGIA GEODETIC SURVEY TRAVERSE STATION 1 B 16 WHICH IS ABOUT 14 FEET NEARER THE REFERENCE MARK THAN WAS THE OLD STATION GETTY E 27, WHICH WAS 38.14 FEET IN GRID AZIMUTH 349 DEG 21 MIN FROM THE REFERENCE MARK. THE GRID AZIMUTH GIVEN HERE COUNTS FROM S ZERO. IT IS SET IN CONCRETE.
01/01/1959 by CGS (MARK NOT FOUND)
RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1959 (ALW) THE RAILROAD HAS BEEN PURCHASED BY THE SEABOARD AIR LINE RAILROAD AND REPORTEDLY IS NOW CALLED THE SEABOARD AIR LINE. DITCHES HAVE AGAIN BEEN CLEANED AND THE DITCH BACKSLOPE AT THIS POINT MACHINED. THE STATION VERY EVIDENTLY WAS DESTROYED PRIOR TO 1949. THE R.M. OF THE SUBJECT MARK IS APPARENTLY UNDISTURBED AT PRESENT, BUT IS CONSIDERED BEST ONLY A BENCH MARK ON LINE 59 GEORGIA. AT 12.47 FEET N AND 5.04 FEET W OF THE PLANE COORDINATE POSITION OF THE SUBJECT MARK, THERE IS THE GEORGIA GEODETIC SURVEY TRAVERSE STATION AND BENCH MARK 1 B 16 FOR WHICH SEE DESCRIPTION THEREOF.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in September 1997.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in 1992. * This is a POSTED BENCH MARK height. Code B indicates a distribution rate of 1.1 thru 2.0 mm/km.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
