Driving by here today and just had to stop.
The marker is right out in the grass sitting nicely.

I work right around the corner. This one has been nagging at me to come find it. Had to exorcise the demon. Marker is in good shape.

I grow up in this area. I went to the elementary school that you can see north of the benchmark. I found a cache less than 100 feet from this spot last year! Until recently, I had no idea this thing was here, yet as we drove by we could both see its location in the grass. I've never hunted for a benchmark before, but I'm willing to bet that most of them aren't this easy to find.

11:35am TX Diva and I knew exactly where this one was going to be. Yep! She'll post pics.

My first benchmark!

There is a cache about 60 feet away from here. So today we stopped and got a two for one cache/benchmark hunt.

The surveying stake made it a easy find even in the dark. I knew about where it was supposed to be so when the coords didn't match I looked around -- there was the stake.

Found with Amada on a cold wet day not fit for looking for caches.

Found it last month but forgot to log it. Previous description of location was extremely helpful.

fun on this one. my bro The droog, and i walked by it about 10 times, then left, then came back and found it.

First Benchmark, third day ever caching. went with PhazeShyft and had a little fun after circling it a few times.
enjoyed the visit to UTA

Easy find. No more pictures needed, so it didn't matter that my batteries were low.

After failing to find the mark yesterday, I checked this web page again and made another trip to the site. The overview photo by bpfinn was most helpful, as were the revised GPS coordinates provided by other visitors. I didn't realize until I got home that the coordinates I got were almost exactly the same as the ones provided by ''ShaneN4Girls''. Thanks, everyone.

The mark is about 20 feet east of Fielder and about 30 feet north of Park Row. It is roughly on a line between the northwest corner of the intersection and the ballpark light pole just to the southeast of a large billboard at the center field fence. It wouldn't be as difficult to find in the winter, but today it seems to be hidden by grass and weeds.

--=[UPDATE]=--

I returned 9/3/2003 and made a couple of measurements. The mark is 29 feet east of the east edge of the sidewalk on Fielder, and 42 feet north of the north edge of the sidewalk on Park Row.

Walk straight toward that light pole, just to the right of the billboard, from the northeast corner of the intersection.

The benchmark hides in a clump of lovely little plants.

Lots of construction but not at the disk. They are adding to the ball park.

Thought it was missing since UTA is getting a new baseball field and construction was going on. My coords were 170 feet off.

I have used this as a calibration point for my GPS. I took a GPS class at UTA and we used this point frequently.

I found my first benchmark! This one was pretty easy, although the coordinates were a bit off. It's still there, and it looks like it's in good shape.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
