I have a question about this one. I found where ya'll recorded it before (and my gps also showed across the street). But, your pictures show the marker just to the left (east) of that telephone pole, and now, that spot is under a lump of newly poured tar. I did see a round metal disk on the telephone pole right there that didn't appear in your pictures. I'm wondering if the is supposed to be a substitute marker of some kind.

Let me know. I am new to this benchmarking and am definitely curious as to whether they would do this or not.

Finally found it! I could never have done it without help from AE5D's picture. My GPS was always showing the other side of the road.

Here is the benchmark & GPS.

Note the benchmark at the bottom left in the photo.

The station is damaged, and the cover is gone, but the mark is still in good condition. Use caution -- the mark is occupied by numerous fire ants.

The housing is stamped C1499 and the mark is in good condition, even without a cover.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
