Found this while out geocaching in the area.

Easy find with the good directions Gila gave. We took a picture showing the benchmark with our GPS's. The correct coordinates are 31 12.151 N, and 111 0.365 W.

Found easily just 15 feet SE of the Ironwood Picnic Ground sign on NE side of Kinney Road across from the turnoff into the Ironwood Picnic Ground. Marker in good shape.

VETERANS HOSPITAL, TUCSON, ALONG STATE HIGHWAY 86, THENCE 3.9 MILES NORTHWEST ALONG KINNEY ROAD, AT A JUNCTION OF A GRAVEL ROAD LEADING SOUTHWEST TO THE IRONWOOD PICNIC AREA, 107.2 FEET EAST OF THE EAST CORNER OF A STONE AND A CONCRETE MONUMENT IN THE TRIANGLE OF THE ROAD JUNCTION TO THE IRONWOOD PICNIC AREA, 25 1/2 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE MAIN ROAD, 2.1 FEET NORTHWEST OF A WITNESS POST, AND ABOUT 1 FOOT LOWER THAN THE ROAD, AND SET IN THE TOP OF A CONCRETE POST PROJECTING 0.5 FOOT.

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.) The vertical order pertains to the superseded datum.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
