Recovered as described, in good condition. An update to the to-reach follows. From the Sunland Gin Road exit on I-10 go south on Sunland Gin Road 9.11 miles to the intersection of Harmon Road. Then west on Harmon Road 1.91 miles to a track road south, turn south and follow the curving track road about 2.30 miles south to the base of the knoll.

DESCRIBED BY DEFENSE MAP AGENCY 1966 T-9-S. R-6-E. IN SECTION 13 ABOUT 0.7 MILE SOUTHEAST OF THE NORTHWEST CORNER. THE STATION MARK IS A CORPS OF ENGINEERS, U.S. ARMY DISK CEMENTED IN A DRILLED HOLE IN OUTCROPPING ROCK. IT IS STAMPED--AG 59X ARMY MAP SERVICE 1966. LOCATED ON THE HIGHEST POINT OF A SMALL KNOLL AT THE NORTHEAST EDGE OF THE SAWTOOTH MOUNTAINS. 41 FEET NORTHEAST OF A FOUR-ARMED GIANT SAGUARO CACTUS. AND 29 FEET NORTH-NORTHWEST OF THE CENTER OF A SMALL PALO VERDE TREE. AND 10 FEET EAST OF A 3 FOOT HIGH ROCK CAIRN. TO REACH FROM THE JUNCTION OF STATE ROUTES 93 AND 84 IN CASA GRANDE, PINAL COUNTY, ARIZONA GO SOUTHEAST ON ROUTES 93 AND 84 FOR 6.4 MILES TO A ROAD SOUTH (SUNLAND GIN ROAD) LEADING TO ARIZONA CITY. TURN RIGHT AND GO SOUTH FOR 13.8 MILES TO A ROAD WEST. TURN RIGHT AND GO WEST 0.6 MILE TO A GATE IN A NORTH-SOUTH FENCELINE. PASS THRU GATE AND CONTINUE WEST FOR 0.55 MILE TO A DIM ROAD NORTH WHICH PASSES JUST EAST OF A BEEHIVE SHELTER. TURN RIGHT AND GO NORTH ON DIM ROAD FOR 1.8 MILES TO A POINT EAST OF A SMALL KNOLL THAT IS LOCATED JUST NORTH OF A LINE MOUNTAIN AT THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF THE SAWTOOTH MOUNTAINS. TURN LEFT AND FOLLOW TRACKS WEST TO BASE OF KNOLL. ABOUT THREE MINUTES PACK TIME TO TOP. NOTE--4-WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE RECOMMENDED FOR THIS STATION. BY FOLLOWING TRACKS AROUND THE SOUTH SIDE OF KNOLL A 4-WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE CAN BE DRIVEN TO THE TOP OF THE KNOLL, UP THE SOUTHWEST SLOPE. REFERENCE MARK NO 1 IS A CORPS OF ENGINEERS, U.S. ARMY DISK CEMENTED IN A DRILLED HOLE IN OUTCROPPING ROCK. IT IS STAMPED--AG 59 X RM 1 ARMY MAP SERVICE 1966. LOCATED 62.87 FEET NORTH-NORTHWEST OF THE STATION AND 4.2 FEET LOWER IN ELEVATION. REFERENCE MARK NO 2 IS A CORPS OF ENGINEERS, U.S. ARMY DISK CEMENTED IN A DRILLED HOLE IN OUTCROPPING ROCK. IT IS STAMPED--AG 59X RM 2 ARMY MAP SERVICE 1966. LOCATED 27.93 FEET SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF THE STATION AND 0.6 FOOT LOWER IN ELEVATION. REFERENCE MARK NO 3 IS A CORPS OF ENGINEERS, U.S. ARMY DISK CEMENTED IN A DRILLED HOLE IN A PROMINENT PROJECTING OUTCROPPING ROCK. IT IS STAMPED--AG 59X RM 3 ARMY MAP SERVICE 1966. LOCATED 38.93 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE STATION AND 7.8 FEET LOWER IN ELEVATION.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in August 1993.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
