DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1967 9.75 MI W FROM MOBILE. 9.75 MILES WEST ALONG THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC RAILROAD FROM THE NELSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AT MOBILE, 0.5 MILE NORTHEAST OF MILEPOST 864, 38 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE NORTHWEST RAIL OF THE MAIN TRACK, 61 FEET NORTHWEST AND ACROSS THE TRACKS FROM A SMALL METAL BUILDING, 31 FEET WEST OF AN ELECTRIC SIGNAL BOX AT THE SOUTHWEST END OF THE ESTRELLA SIDING, 6 FEET NORTHEAST OF A TELEGRAPH POLE, IN LINE WITH A ROW OF POLES, 1.0 FOOT SOUTHWEST OF A METAL WITNESS POST, ABOUT 2 FEET BELOW THE LEVEL OF THE TRACKS, AND ON THE TOP OF A 5/8-INCH COPPER COATED ROD THAT IS DRIVEN TO A DEPTH OF 15 FEET AND IS ENCASED IN A 5-INCH IRON PIPE WHICH PROJECTS 5 INCHES.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
