Recovered in good condition. The disk is a standard USGS bench mark disk stamped 417.683. Handheld GPSr indicated coordinates of N 32 47 07.2 W 113 34 05.5 (DMS).

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1952 7.3 MI SW FROM AZTEC. 7.3 MILES SOUTHWEST ALONG THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY RAILROAD FROM THE WATER TANK AT AZTEC, SOUTH OF THE RAILROAD TRACK, 0.5 MILE SOUTHWEST OF MILEPOST 805, 186 FEET SOUTHWEST OF AND ACROSS THE RAILROAD TRACK FROM THE CENTER LINE OF THE HIGHWAY, 46 FEET SOUTH OF THE SOUTH RAIL, 1.4 FEET NORTHEAST OF A WITNESS POST, ABOUT 1 1/2 FEET LOWER THAN THE RAILROAD TRACK, AND RIVETED ON THE TOP OF A 3 1/2 INCH IRON PIPE PROJECTING 0.6 FOOT ABOVE THE GROUND.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
