Spotted the California Tower - which is spectacular - several times while we were walking around the Prado and Balboa Park. One can now climb its internal stairs up to the first viewing platform.

This was the meeting place for the SD Rally Against Hate.

Observed while partying and geocaching in the park.

found during a bikeride through park..

We were visiting the park so we could go to the Railroad Museum. Of course we had to check to see if there were any benchmarks. Sure enough, there is a magnificent and beautiful one.

Found with Sandy Bandy before heading into the zoo.

Easy to spot this while on the sky tower for the zoo.

Another very visable mark- I just wanted to get as close as I could before claiming it.

Found while visiting the Balboa Park in San Diego.

Out for the day with Fiddlefiend, my brother, his wife and their son. The drive through the park was amazing. No parking to be found. This is a beautiful place, worth coming back for a longer visit on a weekday.

Cool benchmark, and in good shape.

Beautiful building in a beautiful park.

Walked by this with DJohnson28 & Smileez while going to the Nat Museum several times.

spent the day in Balboa Park and walked by it about 100 times.....

Yip, it is still there!! This was our first Bench Mark! :)

(T: 1000) I seen this tower many times over the years and just noted it is a BM. Interesting the 1916 description as “This tower is the highest and most prominent object in the city of San Diego.”

This one isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

I thought I was looking for a benchmark disk like the one in front of the Natrual History museum, but I guess it is just the tower. Now, I cant find where to log the benchmark disk in front of the Natural History museum. Can anyone send me a link? There is also another bench mark disk at the south west end of the El Prado bridge over Highway 163. I cannot find where to log that bench mark in either. They do not appear to be in the Geocaching database.

see this one all the time. I even work dinners for the old globe rich people underneath

Found it on a field trip to the Museum of Man. Wish they could display the artifacts without all the evolution spin. Oh well, fun day anyway. I figured this was a BM and checked when we got home.

Got a birds-eye view of benchmark while on aerial tram at zoo.

Found while acting out the part of a tourist in the park.

This is one of my favorite parts of the park. My girlfriend's daughter goes to school just a few blocks from here. I was at the Old Globe theatre (right next to this) a couple of nights ago for the first annual lighting of the "Grinch" Christmas Tree. It was great.

found while in town

While walking around the park doing the PodCache, I found this benchmark. I had so much fun in the park, I made the 60-mile roundtrip to come back just a few days later.

Yep, this one is still there! Was under this today while I was Caching!

Saw and heard benchmark while doing a PodCache in the Park. It played a patriotic ditty then played Waltzing Matilda.

Another spotted on a drive by. Still standing.

We're relatively new to San Diego but of course this benchmark was one of the first sights we saw.

our first bench mark...we all found it at the same time!

yeah our first benchmark! Nice and easy just the way we like them

Located 0900.
Spend a day at the Zoo with some friends and introduced them not only to geocaching, but also benchmark hunting. Sighted this one up close and then from the Zoo chairlift ride.

One could verify this benchmark from quite a distance, if needed, but we went right up to it. Looking as lovely as ever. Balboa Park is such a jewel!
CB, Queen of the Taskmasters

Right where it's always been

First official benchmark find... an easy one. I've always seen the brass tags on mountain tops and known they were relevant markers, but tall buildings? Cool.

My photo taken from the vehicle does not do justice to such a beautifil building.

photoDC1692 - Balboa Park

ive been here many times, i love the park.

A tower that is quite familiar to me. I go past it nearly every day! Here's an angle, of the tower, that I didn't see on the website. One from the Alcazar Garden. The bells toll every 15 minutes, and It plays music just after noon, every day.

It's great to have this one as my first benchmark! Trixx

This was a quick easy find near the Prado Bridge in Balboa Park; the weather vane is a dead giveaway. Found in the company of The Greasy Diner. Thanks, Fort Rectus

Found this one while caching in Balboa Park. Beautiful area - WE SHALL RETURN!

Went down to Balboa Park and found this one pretty easily. In the last picture, you can see the wind vane. I always thought this was called The California Tower.
